In a context of rapid evolution and constant challenges, the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro (UTAD) recognizes the crucial need to promote innovation, knowledge transfer, and support knowledge-intensive companies. In this scenario, the Center for Innovation and Development (CIDE) emerges as a key component to materialize this strategic vision.

Fostering Innovation and Knowledge

CIDE is UTAD’s specialized response to this need, acting as a multifaceted hub that plays a vital role in promoting innovation and supporting the academic community. Its competencies and mission span various strategic areas, with a focus on:
a) Unified Management and Global Promotion: CIDE takes on the responsibility of harmonizing the management of service-providing units, seeking to create synergies and promote collaboration across different areas of expertise. It stands out for its coordinated approach, respecting the autonomy and scientific coordination of each unit.
b) Project Development and Partnerships: CIDE manages and develops projects and partnerships with external stakeholders, relying on business development services that benefit the entire UTAD. This approach contributes to creating a dynamic relationship between academia and the business sector.
c) Relationship with the Business Sector: By promoting interaction between UTAD graduates and the business sector, CIDE facilitates internships and partnerships, strengthening employability. In coordination with research centers, services, and organic units, it seeks to establish effective connections between academia and the business world.
d) Business Incubator and Entrepreneurship: CIDE supports the creation of knowledge-intensive companies by members of the academic community and former students, while providing support for the management of UTAD’s Business Incubator. Active participation in external initiatives highlights its commitment to entrepreneurship and innovation.
e) Knowledge Transfer and Intellectual Property Protection: Stimulating knowledge transfer, CIDE promotes competitive advantages for the business sector. Devoting efforts to the dissemination, promotion, and support of intellectual property protection encourages the transfer of this valuable knowledge to society.
f) Awareness, Promotion, and Archiving: CIDE conducts awareness and promotion activities for innovation and entrepreneurship, identifying ideas, products, and services suitable for transfer between the university and the business world. It also ensures the operational management and efficient archiving of information, guaranteeing the effectiveness of its operation.

In the CIDE at UTAD, the commitment is to drive innovation, promote competitiveness, and actively contribute to the sustainable development of the region. With a comprehensive approach, CIDE positions itself as a strategic agent in fostering knowledge and innovation within the academic community and society at large.
