Annex to the Specific Evidence Calendar | 2022-23
International Student
In compliance with the provisions of Decree-Law No. 36/2014, of 10 March, as amended by Decree-Law No. 62/2018 of 6 August, the rules applicable to the 1st phase of applications are established under the International Student Statute for admission to undergraduate and integrated master’s courses for the academic year 2022/2023 at the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro.
1. An international student is a student who does not have Portuguese nationality.
2. They are not covered by the previous number:
a) nationals of a Member State of the European Union;
b) The Portuguese family or national of a European Union Member State, regardless of their nationality;
c) Those who, not being nationals of a Member State of the European Union and not covered by the previous number, have been legally resident in Portugal for more than two years, uninterruptedly, on January 1 of the year in which they intend to enter higher education , as well as the children who legally reside with them;
d) Those who are beneficiaries, on January 1 of the year they intend to enter higher education, equal rights and duties assigned under international treaty status granted between the Portuguese State and the State of nationality;
e) that require access to higher education through special arrangements for access and entry regulated by Decree-Law No. 393-A / 99 of October 2, as amended by Decree-Law No. 272/2009 of October 1;
3. There are also covered by the concept of international student foreign students who are attending UTAD under an international mobility program for carrying out part of a course of study in a foreign higher education institution with whom UTAD has established an exchange agreement for this purpose.
4. The residence time with study permit does not affect the effects of paragraph 2 (c).
5. For the purposes of paragraph b) of paragraph 2, are familiar to those who thus are considered in accordance with Law No. 37/2006, of August 9.
6. Admission to UTAD by those students who fall under points a) to d) of paragraph 2 is performed in the same terms as students with Portuguese nationality.
Holders of a qualification that gives them the right for application and enrollment in a higher education institution in the country in which it was obtained;
Holders of a Portuguese high school diploma (for example, Portuguese school abroad) or legal equivalent degree.
The following are conditions for admission to each study cycle, designated and mandatorily:
a) The verification of the specific academic qualification to enter the cycle of studies;
b) The verification of knowledge of the language in which the study cycle is taught;
c) The verification of the satisfaction of the prerequisites that have been established for the study cycle in question under the general regime of access and entry
Cumulative requirements of admission
Hold specific academic qualification for admission in the study cycle (s) to which an application was submitted;
Have a level of knowledge of the Portuguese language appropriate to the course or acquire it in UTAD.
Candidates must have acquired knowledge for the specific exam subjects considered indispensable to be admitted on the course to which an application has been submitted, respecting the general access and admission regime of the public higher education in Portugal;
If the applicant is the holder of a Portuguese high school diploma, the classifications of the admission exams will be used in accordance with the weight used for degrees in UTAD for the general access regime and enrollment in public higher education in Portugal;
When the candidate holds a course of one of the foreign educational systems, the exams classifications of equivalent admission exams required for the national access and enrollment in public higher education will be used;
In the remaining situations, the candidate must submit to exams equivalent to the specific exams required by the general access and enrollment in public higher education in Portugal and respective classification weight.
UTAD performs the specific exam in accordance with the admission exams required for the national general access to the public higher education system.
With the exception for candidates with proven upper secondary education provided in the course teaching language, the frequency of any of the bachelor’s and and integrated master’s study cycles in UTAD requires language knowledge, corresponding to level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
The application may be submitted up to a maximum of three courses, in descending order of preference, under the condition (s) of having passed the specific matching exams.
The application is submitted through the computer application available on the UTAD academic services website, respecting the deadline established by the calendar applicable to this contest.
The application determines the payment of a fee in accordance with the applicable table.
The application must be accompanied by the following documents:
a) Simple photocopy of the passport or foreign identity card;
b) Statement, under oath, that the applicant is not of Portuguese nationality, nor is subject to any circumstances which may prevent the application to this contest;
c)Document proving completion and classification in the Portuguese secondary teaching or equivalent, or document proving possession of qualification and classification that awards the student the right to application and enrolment in higher education in the country in which it was obtained, and what it provides, validated by the competent authority of that country;
d) B1 certificate issued by an institution of recognized standing whenever the candidate has not attended secondary school in the language in which the course is offered;
The documents must be translated whenever they are not issued in Portuguese, English, French or Spanish and endorsed by consular services or presented with the affixing of the Hague Apostille by the competent authority of the State where the document originates
Candidates are ranked in descending order of the final classification.
The final classification corresponds to the sum of the classifications obtained in the tests, multiplied by the respective weight:
a) a specific test: 100%;
b) Two specific tests: 50% for each.
Whenever two or more candidates in a tie situation dispute the last place additional vacancies are created.
The list of candidates is published on the UTAD Academic Services website.
The final result shall be expressed by one of the following:
a) Placed;
b) Not placed;
c) Excluded.
The annual tuition fee can be paid in its entirety at the time of registration and enrolment or fractionated into eight monthly and successive instalments, in which case the enrolment and registration will only be validated only after payment of the first instalment, which corresponds to 50% of the total tuition, plus the respective rates for enrolment and registration.
The tuition fees to be applied in the academic year 2022/2023 are those set by the General Council of UTAD.

Candidates who do not enroll in the period defined in the applicable calendar will have to apply again and pay a new rate of process instruction.
