According to the Strategic Plan, UTAD has the ambition to contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda. From the outset, within the framework of UTAD’s values, we assume the centrality and appreciation of people and their participation, the importance of equality and inclusion, and promoting sustainability. On the other hand, we affirm ourselves as an institution that thinks globally and acts locally and globally, involved in reflection and action for a more prosperous and sustainable world, with a culture of social, collaborative and networked responsibility, focused on quality and with an international vision, in interaction with the scientific, business, political world and society in general.

The commitment to the 2030 Agenda has been materialized by several activities of the Academy in the areas of teaching and support to students, research, campus management and its experiences, and connection to the community, as defined in the Strategic Plan and in the annual activity plans. In general terms, the competing commitments and activities for Agenda 2030, defined in previous years, remain registered for 2020. The matrix of four areas shows the link of Activities and Projects to be developed in 2020, as set out in the chapter of the Activities Report UTAD for 2020, with the Sustainable Development Goals.

Additionally, in 2020, the following initiatives will be carried out, transversal to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):

  • The reinforcement of the internationalization component of knowledge produced by UTAD, which is reflected in several SDGs, associated with initiatives to disseminate and promote good practices in open science and knowledge sharing. This contribution will be systematized in a Sustainability Report to be published in 2020, with a focus on contributing to the goals associated with the SDGs;
  • The survey of courses that include the themes of Agenda 2030 and SDGs in their curricular structure, as well as the percentage of students covered;
  • Incorporation, in all study cycles, of an initiative that covers all students, per semester, which promotes literacy on the themes inherent to Agenda 2030 and the SDGs;
  • The reinforcement of UTAD’s role as a vehicle and promoter of the 2030 Agenda in the context of its relations with the community, with companies and with public or private entities, including the organization of an international event in conjunction with the “SDGs Labs – making the SDGs our business ”, in which UTAD is a partner. The “SDGs Labs” is a project financed by the Erasmus + Program, and aims to strengthen cooperation between higher education institutions and companies, to strengthen innovative capacity in the European space.
