Knowledge of winemaking aptitude and the definition of terroir through the agro-ecological zoning provided by the International Organization of Vine and Wine (OIV) are necessary conditions to support the improvement of the planning, management, dynamization and sustainability of the wine producing territories and production units . The wine-producing regions lack instruments of action, decision-making and training of agents for the improvement of the economy and territorial governance, appreciation of cultural landscapes and wine products, integration in international networks, attraction of investors and tourists, promotion and promotion of economic and social entrepreneurship. The rationalization of policies, strategic plans and investments, production practices and transformation will be translated into the improvement of the viability of the units and activities as well as the environmental and life quality of the local population.

This project focused on the sub-regions of Monção and Melgaço and Lima, both of the Demarcated Region of the Vinhos Verdes, involves the private entities of an interprofessional nature and entities of the scientific and technological system with proven experience in viticulture, winemaking, as well as , in processes and systems of dynamization of rural activities and territories. Expected activities include:

i) agro-ecological zoning and natural, cultural and economic winemaking aptitude for the definition and management of the terroir;

ii) specification, development and sustainability of the territorial information system and WEBSIG collaborative platform;

iii) validation of wine zoning by ecophysiology, production, phytosanitary, social perception and economic results;

iv) dissemination of results and zoning, training and organization of agents.

In the end, the following results are to be obtained:

i) spatial databases, a territorial information system, a WEBGIS platform for consultation and communication with resources and contents accessible by geoportal, expert systems to support strategic and political decision, terroir proposals to the OIV, cartography of aptitude and productive capacity viticulture;

ii) in parallel, to the involvement, participation, organization and training of the agents and realization of promotional events, in particular with interest for internationalization;

iii) impacts on the greater viability of the units of production and sustainability of these wine-growing territories and in the commercialization.
