Recognising the importance of the pedagogical training of higher education teachers, UNorte has developed a project to be implemented at the 3 universities, the “Pedagogical and Personal Skills Training Plan for Teachers”, aimed at improving the quality of teacher training at these institutions, mainly by exchanging and disseminating experiences and practices.

Today, the need for faculty members to permanently update their knowledge, scientific and pedagogical skills, reinforced by the implementation of the Bologna Process, is necessarily related to the professional development of teachers and, in our view, this contributes to the improvement of the quality of teaching. Furthermore, it should be noted that the teaching profession also entails very different roles and functions required by a student population with highly diverse social, cultural, ethnic and age characteristics. Indeed, specific knowledge and professional experience are not enough to meet the high demands of higher education: a mastery of didactics, cross-disciplinarity, flexibility, the use of technologies and a good rapport with students, as well as motivation, are key skills for successful teaching practice.

In this context, and bearing in mind that the training of higher education teachers also involves the improvement of the pedagogical-didactic component, UTAD offers this cycle of training actions in collaboration with the University of Porto and the University of Minho, delivered by colleagues from the 3 institutions.

UTAD has therefore prepared a set of 12 initiatives intended to motivate our faculty members to participate (including teachers from other universities), which respond to many requests received and address the exchange of experiences of teaching, student evaluations and motivation methodologies and techniques.
