General Objectives
- To prepare PhDs in Sports Sciences, capable of producing theoretical and practical knowledge in the field of health in general and sport in particular, generating and multiplying scientific research guided by an ethical and critical attitude, adequate to current society and the national academic environment, fundamentally with the following approaches:
i) socio-historical focus of sport, mainly with studies pertinent to the respective line of research and projects;
ii) biophysical approach of sport, with studies pertinent to the respective thematic areas and lines of research with its different projects;

- To consolidate and deepen the critical view of the issues related to the different dimensions of sport, as well as the competence to develop high level research and stimulate scientific research that can meet the needs of the professional sectors.

Admission Requirements
- Holders of a master degree or legal equivalent in the areas of Physical Education and Sport, Human Kinetics, Kinetics Science, Sport Sciences, Physical Activity and Health, Psychomotor Rehabilitation, sub-areas of Health Sciences (Physiotherapy, Rehabilitation, Nursing, Sports Medicine) or similar;
- Holders of a bachelors degree with a relevant academic or scientific curriculum recognised as attesting the capacity to accomplish this cycle of studies in the areas of Physical Education and Sport, Human Kinetics, Kinetics Science, Sport Sciences, Physical Activity and Health, Psychomotor Rehabilitation, sub-areas of Health Sciences (Physiotherapy, Rehabilitation, Nursing, Sports Medicine) or similar;
- Holders of an academic, scientific or professional curriculum recognised as attesting the capacity to carry out this cycle.
