General Objectives
The 1st Cycle of the Degree in Oenology has two general objectives:
- To prepare technicians with skills for the job market and with the capacity for entrepreneurial initiative and streamlining processes involving technical and socio-economic change.
- To prepare students with the knowledge, comprehension skills and competences to pursue studies in a 2nd cycle course.

The specific objectives are:
- To train technicians with the capacity, knowledge and skills to work in the production, processing and marketing of wine products;
- To train technicians with the capacity, knowledge and skills to work in the areas of rural development, vocational training and agro-industrial activities;
- To train technicians with the capacity, knowledge and skills to pursue 2nd cycle studies aiming at specialisation, design and research in related areas.
- To develop systematic and thorough work skills, with a critical sense.
Graduates with this training should be able to solve problems in their area, know how to collect, select and interpret information specific to the area, know how to justify and communicate the proposed solutions, and develop skills and motivation for lifelong learning.

Career Opportunities
The Degree in Oenology aims, among others, at the following professional careers:
- Young entrepreneurs in the wine area;
- Technicians and managers of wine companies;
- Certification and quality assurance bodies in
public and/or private laboratories;
- Sales and marketing companies, technical assistance
and training related to the wine sector;
- Sales, marketing and technical assistance companies in
wine machinery and equipment;
- Companies responsible for the installation and maintenance of
vineyards;
- Vocational training companies in the area ofagriculture.
Graduate Profile
Trained technicians of an advanced level with the capacity, knowledge and competences to carry out functions in the management, production, processing, quality control and marketing of wine products.
In particular:
- The installation and maintenance of vineyards, aiming at productivity and quality.
- Hygiene, vinification, clarification and stabilisation processes and the equipment used in the various stages, as well as the analytical control of wines with the aim of maximising quality;
- Subsidiary industries, such as those involved in the production of vinegars, juices, spirits and the extraction of by-products;
- The market in wine products, their evolution and the legislation in the wine sector.
As a complement to the university education, a series of interim internships are carried out in wine sector companies that offer opportunities to acquire practical knowledge and contact.
