General Objectives
The Degree in Nutrition Sciences aims to promote the training of professionals in the field of human nutrition with the capacity to improve the nutritional well-being, health and quality of life of individuals and populations. In this sense, the main objectives are centralized in the training of professionals able of using the latest technical and scientific knowledge on food and nutrition, in order to enable them to solve problems in terms of quality and food safety, prevention of food imbalances and their pathologies, and to evaluate and change eating habits according to the sociopolitical framework.
UTAD's Nutrition Science curriculum is structured in such a way that graduates can be professionals with a high level of skills that enable them to access the Nutritionist profession. Graduates in Nutrition Sciences should have a solid and comprehensive basic training in the fields of health sciences, nutrition sciences, chemistry and biochemistry, food safety and quality, so that they can intervene efficiently in the areas of professional activity of the Nutritionist. UTAD’s Nutrition Sciences graduates are expected to have competencies in the following areas: (1) General competencies in nutrition and human nutrition; (2) Diagnostic skills; (3) Intervention and monitoring skills; (4) Management skills; (5) Skills in ethics and deontology; (6) Interpersonal skills; (7) Professional development skills; (8) Skills in communication and new technologies.

- Clinical Nutrition - Diagnosis of nutritional status and implementation of nutritional therapy appropriate to different pathological situations (hospitals, health centers, clinics, family health units ...)
- Community Nutrition - Planning, implementation, management and evaluation of community intervention programs in the area of food / nutrition (municipalities, homes, kindergartens and schools ...)
- Public Health - Monitoring and surveillance of population and population groups in the area of nutrition and food-related health and development of food and nutrition policies (general health management, public health units, ...)
- Catering and Public Food Services - Planning, implementation and management of diets and menus for collective catering (catering companies, hospitals, municipalities, ...)

- Food and pharmaceutical industry - Quality control, microbiological, nutritional and sensory food products, as well as development of new functional products, linking production, nutrition, health and food marketing

Graduate Profile
The graduates in Nutrition Sciences of UTAD practice the profession of Nutritionist based on Law no. 126/2015 of September 3, after access to the Portuguese Council of Nutritionists
