General Objectives
The Nursing Degree course provides scientific, human, technical and cultural training to plan, provide and evaluate nursing care for healthy or sick human beings, throughout the life cycle, various levels of preventive care to the family, groups and community, and the capacity to undertake research in nursing, in particular, and health in general, and to participate in the training of other health professionals and in the management of health services.
Through the training process, the aim is that students will be able:
In the profession
- To contribute to the development of Nursing by participating in the management of services, in the training of nurses, in the conduct of studies related to the exercise of the profession and in research in nursing;
- To develop professional awareness, collaborating in organisations, with a view to helping the profession progress;
In the provision and management of nursing care
- To plan, execute and evaluate comprehensive and personalised care for individuals, families and communities at different levels of prevention, using scientific methodology;
- To develop competencies for designing, formulating clinical judgements, critical thinking and decision-making, which ensure excellence in care and the consequent achievement of health gains.
In organisations
- To participate in the development of health policies and programmes in order to achieve the strategic objectives of the National Health System;
- To collaborate in continuous improvement and quality assurance programmes;
- To take a proactive attitude in leadership processes relevant to the practice of nursing care and health care;
- To acquire interdisciplinary and multiprofessional work skills;
- To collaborate with other health technicians or other sectors involved in the development of individual or community health projects.
In society and in the world
- To interact in the community, undertaking the commitment to participate in the empowerment process for improving the quality of life by transforming the context.
- To understand the complexity of health problems and that their resolution takes place from a systemic perspective, following the evolution of the economy, education, the labour market and technological innovation;
- To incorporate into nursing practice skills that promote culturally sensitive care in a variety of geo-demographic contexts.
