Academic Degree
General Objectives
Cross-border collaboration, favored by cultural affinity, will provide an improvement in the quality, prestige and impact of research in institutions and research centers in Galicia-Northern Portugal, an increase in institutional visibility and an incentive to the mobility and scientific collaboration of teachers and researchers. Bringing together scientific skills from the various institutions, a strong critical mass is created, which allows to overcome some fragmentation of teaching resources of programs with a single institution and increase the attractiveness of the study program.

The Universidade sem Fronteiras (UNISF) [University without Borders] is born from a partnership between the 6 public universities in the Galicia-Northern Euroregion of Portugal, led by the University of Minho as the main beneficiary, and the Fundação Centro de Estudos Eurorexionais (FCEER) [Foundation Center for Eurorexional Studies].
The universities that are part of the network of public universities in the Euroregion are: the University of A Coruña (UdC), the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC), the University of Vigo (UV), the University of Minho (UM), the University of Porto (U. Porto) and the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro (UTAD). The rectors of these 6 universities make up the board of FCEER.
The objective of UNISF is to implement 4 pilot programs of innovative, cooperative and more creative courses, with a clear cross-border and multidisciplinary component, in which the Universities of the Euroregion participate. UNISF project was approved with a total budget of €1,989,628.60, with a co-financing percentage of 75% by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), which represents €1,492,221.46.

Career Opportunities
The employability rate among doctorates in the area of Applied Mathematics (AM), and related areas, is very high. According to data published by the DGEEC - Directorate General of Education and Science Statistics, the rate of doctorates in AM, and related areas, who are unemployed and registered with the IEFP on June 30, 2019, is residual, less than 0.5%. It is a trend observed in recent years and is in line with what has been observed in the European Union.
According to the strategic plans and measures for the employability of newly PhDs by institutions in the private and public sectors, promoted by the Portuguese government through the FCT, it is expected that the employability rates of newly PhDs in the area of the AM will remain at current levels over the coming years.
In Galicia, 81% of PhDs in M/AM got a job in the area (84% in < 6 months; average time < 4 months). These numbers are much better than in other areas: 2/3 of doctorates did not find a job in the area and, among those who found it, the average placement time was >6 months.
