General Objectives
The Degree in Genetics and Biotechnology is a 1st cycle course with a duration of 6 semesters and 180 ECTS, which aims to train advanced-level Technicians and Researchers with a solid, up-to-date scientific, theoretical and practical training in the scientific areas of Genetics, Biotechnology , Biology, Biochemistry, Virology and Chemistry. Graduates will be expected to pursue their future specialisation in more oriented Master's degrees such as "Comparative and Technological Molecular Genetics", "Biotechnology for Health Sciences" and "Plant Molecular Biotechnology", amongst others.

Graduates in Genetics and Biotechnology can perform functions related to research, technical and consulting activities, both in public and private entities, or as self-employed, in the following strands:
- Scientific research in universities, institutes, research centres and public or private laboratories;
- Work in the areas of public health and medical research;
- Perform functions in specialised services (biotechnology and genetics, including diagnosis, forensics and product authenticity);
- Supply and provision of technical and professional services in the field of genetics and biotechnology in sales and marketing.
Other areas:
- Work in the area of scientific journalism, in
specialist magazines, companies selling scientific material, regulatory bodies and commissions;
- Consultancy to private and state companies;
- Set-up of biotechnology companies
