General Objectives
The DESG-UTAD Degree in Economics meets the growing need to train competent specialists capable of operating in various sectors of the economy of a country, as well as in various production sectors, through a best practice-oriented teaching in the area ofeconomic sciences.
The teaching of economics operates in an environment of close proximity between students, teachers and the department, and relies on high-quality faculty members, who continually adapt the course, its methodologies and syllabus content to the demands of the labour market.
The Degree in Economics gives a solid training that allows students to easily join the labour market, where they are called upon to work in the various areas of the economic sciences, from the formulation of economic policies (monetary, budgetary, exchange, commercial, etc.), micro- and macroeconomic analyses, financial markets performance, economic-financial analysis of investments, management and development of organisations, etc.
The Economics course generally provides students with the best opportunities for personal, academic and professional development through concrete objectives such as:
- Stimulating the spirit of research and development of behavioural skills, such as teamwork, leadership, motivation, etc.;
- Developing skills in key areas such as mathematics and statistics, management, scientific methodology, social and human sciences, ethics and law;
- Preparing the professional to exercise economic management in both advisory roles and with direct responsibility;
- Providing a general and solid training in economic theory, accompanied by knowledge of theoretical and quantitative instruments and a strong base in historical training;
- Motivating for the pursuit of lifelong learning, in a self-sufficient way;
- Encouraging graduates to pursue studies at master's and/or doctoral level.
