General Objectives
Civil Engineering is one of the most important sectors in the Portuguese economy that continuously absorbs suitably qualified professionals. Against this context, the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro offers a Degree in Civil Engineering with a duration of 3 years (1st cycle) to ensure:
A solid background in basic sciences and engineering sciences as well as a preparatory training in civil engineering sciences that allows students to formalise, analyse and solve, in an integrated way, a wide variety of basic problems in the various fields of Civil Engineering (structures; hydraulics; civil construction, geotechnics, transport links and land use planning);
The application of scientific theories and methods in the realisation and interpretation of the results of automatic calculation programs and laboratory experiments, with a view to the future conduct of research and development work in the various fields of Civil Engineering;
A set of transversal competences in the field of communication, learning, research and teamwork. These competences will enable work to be undertaken in multidisciplinary teams with a high sense of responsibility and respect for the principles of ethics and professional deontology and to communicate the content and importance of their work to a wide variety of audiences and through various means of communication.

The Degree in Civil Engineering:
- Has recognised equivalence in similar cycles in the European higher education area;
