General Objectives
Provide high-quality training in Applied Physical Sciences, enabling professionals with skills and knowledge to work in each of the three areas of expertise.
Provide a stimulating scientific environment in high-quality research projects that facilitates the learning and research, the exchange and development of ideas.
Prepare candidates for a career in Physical Sciences in an academic or business environment by taking advantage of existing relationships and to establish with companies.
Train researchers capable of producing scientifically at the highest level (with advanced, original and superior research) in each of the areas of expertise, taking advantage of the unique features of the UTAD.
Achieving these objectives ensures lifelong learning on its own or leadership of research and development processes, or training processes.

Career Opportunities
A PhD in Applied Physical Sciences is qualified in his/her area of specialization to:

Develop research and scientific production making use of the skills of autonomous consultation and critical analysis of information and the ability to conceive, design, adapt and carry out significant research respecting the requirements of the standards of academic quality and integrity;
To develop high level professional activity, based on advanced scientific knowledge and practice, to promote technological, social or cultural progress.

These valences allow working in:

-Development and innovation companies and enterprises in the productive sector, namely high technical positions (climatology applied to agroforestry systems; applied technologies, new materials and industrial processes),
-Teaching Institutions
-Research Institutions
-Public institutions
Admission Requirements
Holders of a master's degree or legal equivalent in the areas of physical sciences, physical engineering and related engineering, or teaching in a field of Physical Sciences (or in education in areas related to the teaching of physical sciences)
Holders of a foreign bachelor’s degree or higher academic degree that is recognized as meeting the objectives of the degree of “licenciado”.
Holders of a school, scientific or professional curriculum, which is recognized as attesting their ability to complete the study cycle.

i) Curriculum vitae;
(a) academic curriculum (including classification and adequacy of academic degrees) [40%];
(b) scientific curriculum measured as number and meaning of publications, participation in projects [40%];
(c) Professional experience [10%];
ii) Motivation letter: considering its quality and clarity [10%].
