General Objectives
The Masters in Applied Geosciences aims to promote a solid scientific and technological education, taking into account the growing demands and expectations of the labour market in relation to the acquisition of knowledge and the development of professional competences in the field of Applied Geosciences.

The specific objectives of this master's degree are:

1) To apply techniques of prospecting, research, exploration, processing and environmental management of geological resources, as well as enhancing the geological heritage, using fieldwork, laboratory and georeferencing technologies;

2) To coordinate the licensing processes and geological resources extraction operations;

3) To identify the negative environmental impacts on geological resources, such as water resources and geological heritage, proposing actions to protect/decontaminate soils, sediments and water, and land management measures on an adequate scale that provides for sustainable exploitation and use of resources and heritage;

4) To evaluate the scientific, didactic, heritage and cultural potential of places of geological, mining, archaeological and landscape interest with a view to their institutional and social recognition and their use as vehicles for promoting geotourism;

5) To prepare tables of geological risks.

Career Opportunities
The main career prospects for graduates of the 2nd cycle of studies in Applied Geosciences are the following:

1) Prospecting, research and exploration companies of geological, hydro, hydromineral, thermal and geothermal resources;

2) City Councils and licensing and inspection authorities for the extractive industries and the protection and conservation of geological heritage;

3) Managing geopark companies and the environmental supply and control of water resources and thermal spas;

(4) Specialised laboratories and research and development units.
Admission Requirements
- Holders of a bachelors degree or legal equivalent in the area of Geosciences or related;
- Holders of a foreign higher academic degree, resulting from a 1st cycle of studies organised according to the principles of the Bologna Process,in the area of Geosciences or related;
- Holders of academic, scientific or professional curriculum recognised as attesting the capacity to carry out this cycle;
- Holders of a foreign higher academic degree recognised as meeting the objectives of the bachelors degree.
