Academic Degree
Master's Degree
General Objectives
The Masters in Anthropology, a collaboration between UTAD and ISCTE-IUL, represents a unique opportunity within Portuguese universities for postgraduate training in this disciplinary area. The course offers a double degree and the possibility of interuniversity mobility between the two Universities. It is organised in four semesters (120 ECTS) and is recognised throughout the European Higher Education Area.
Operating simultaneously at the two Universities (Vila Real and Lisbon), the Master's programme offers a wide range of thematic contents and possibilities for choosing research topics and fields. Each student is assigned a tutor as their academic mentor. Graduates acquire the skills to synthesise knowledge in specific areas of Anthropology and, depending on their profile and interests, to undertake project work or conduct a research project with a dissertation.
The Masters in Anthropology has a highly qualified teaching faculty and maintains close links with the research groups and activities carried out within the associated Research Units (CRIA and CETRAD), in some cases, allowing students to participate in ongoing projects and research areas. Students may also benefit from existing agreements at each university for internships and international Socrates-Erasmus exchanges.

General objectives
The general objective of the Masters in Anthropology is to provide a solid training in the discipline, in a permanent confrontation with the challenges of modern times and with proposals essential for the understanding of the world in which we live. Graduates acquire competences in specific areas of Anthropology, conduct a project on the specialised themes of the optional modules, prepare a research project with dissertation and perform the profession of anthropologist.
