More than 50 participants from the academic and business worlds participated last February 16 at the premises of Fraunhofer Portugal, UPTEC, Porto, a workshop dedicated to intelligent agriculture and water management, analyzing challenges and opportunities for the future of this sector in Portugal.
The discussion focused on some case studies, whether academic or business, and the University of Tras-os-Montes and Alto Douro (UTAD) and the University of Évora (EU) presented some results and progress in the use of various technologies in agriculture and water management, which allowed to present a contact with the latest technologies applied in agriculture and possibilities of collaboration and innovation.
Among those present, besides the representatives of the Fraunhofer Institute for Ceramic Technologies (Fraunhofer Institute for Ceramic Technologies and Systems IKTS), were also representatives of the University of Lisbon, the Higher Institute of Agronomy, Hubel Group, GeoDouro, Institute of investigation of Forest and Paper (ROOT), Eugénio de Almeida Foundation and the Foundation for Science and Technology.
This coated on an added importance in view of the announcement of the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding event between the Fraunhofer Society and the Foundation for Science and Technology, which not only renews the research program applied in Portugal, but also forms the basis of creation of a new center dedicated to research in the field of precision agriculture and water management.
In addition to the creation of a pole in the EU, it has also announced the installation of a Fraunhofer center in Regia Douro Park, in partnership with UTAD, which provides for an action program to the level of precision agriculture, particularly in the areas of wine and came. This positive dynamic that reinforces the Center of Excellence for Vine and Wine, consolidates the leading role of UTAD this field and emphasize the creation of new applications for funding programs.
