Assistant Professor at the Department of Physics, School of Science and Technology, UTAD. Holds a degree in Physics (Licenciatura) from the University of Coimbra in 1992. He did a post-graduate course in Management of Science, Technology and Innovation at the University of Aveiro. He completed his PhD in Physics / Physics Didactics in 2005 at UTAD.

At UTAD he held several university management functions, namely Vice-President of the School of Sciences and Technology, Director of the Physics Department, elected member of the Scientific Council of the School of Sciences and Technology, member of the Coordinating Committee of the Doctoral Program in Web Science and Technology (in association with Universidade Aberta), Vice-Director of the PhD Program in Physical Sciences at UTAD, Vice-Director (acting as Executive Director) of the Master’s Program in Teaching Physics and Chemistry in the 3rd Cycle of Basic Education and in the Secondary Education, Coordinator of the Degree in Physics and Chemistry (pre-Bologna initial teacher training degree).

He is an integrated member, since 2005, of the Research Centre on Didactics and Technology in the Education of Trainers (CIDTFF), based at the University of Aveiro, whose Science and Technology Didactics Laboratory is located at UTAD. His research interests focus on the following areas: Teaching and Learning Physics; Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Education; Educational Technologies; Teacher training. He participated in several research projects with competitive funding. He is the author or co-author of several books, book chapters, articles in national and international journals, as well as several communications at conferences. He collaborated in the organization of several national and international conferences and is a reviewer in several scientific journals.
