Carla Maria Alves Quintelas do Amaral Marinho, born in 1971, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biology and Environment (Deba) of the School of Life and Environmental Sciences (ECVA) at UTAD. She graduated in Biology/Geology (teaching of) at UTAD, in 1994. She holds a Master’s degree in Environmental Sciences with a specialization in Environmental Quality, obtained at the University of Minho in 2000. She holds a Ph.D. in Environmental Sciences obtained at UTAD, in 2010. Professor at DeBA since 1995, where she started his teaching activity until the present year. She is the responsible teacher of the Curricular Units of Cell Biology and Microbiology, having collaborated in the teaching of other UCs in the area of ​​Biological and Environmental Sciences. She is an integrated member of the Center for Research and Agri-Environmental and Biological Technologies (CITAB), focusing her research activity in the areas of environmental microbiology, namely in the research of agro-industrial waste purification methodologies using biological methods, as well as in the valorization of these residues through the extraction of compounds with bioactivity, in particular antimicrobial activity. She was the supervisor of doctoral theses, master’s dissertations, and curricular internships. She participated in national and international research projects. She has held several institutional management positions, namely: Director and Deputy Director of the 1st and 2nd Cycles of Biochemistry, Secretary and Member of the Pedagogical Council of ECVA (quadrennium 2013-2017), and Secretary and Member of the General Council of UTAD (quadrennium 2017) -2021). She was also a member of the UTAD Quality Monitoring Committee for the implementation of the Internal Quality Assurance System (SIGQ-UTAD) (since 2016).
