Interventions mean a total investment of about three million euros
The University of Tras-os-Montes and Alto Douro (UTAD) is to carry out energy efficiency measures in buildings the campus park. Stock of the measures under way and already implemented were presented in Coimbra, last Wednesday, the officials of the Operational Program for Sustainability and Efficiency in the use of resources (POSEUR) in a session that was attended by the Minister of Environment.
Amadeu Borges, pro-rector for the Heritage Area and Sustainability explained at the meeting that the measures are being implemented in some of the campus buildings and aiming at a reduction in energy consumption by more than 21%; the reduction of greenhouse effect gas emissions by about 76%; and reducing the primary energy consumption by almost 50%; taking such measures were considered “exemplary” by POSEUR.
In particular, we talk about things like the intervention area in roofing, fiber cement replacement, the production of electricity using the photovoltaic solar energy, replacing natural gas boilers with biomass boilers, the air conditioning of buildings, replacement of systems conventional LED lighting technology, installing motion sensors associated with lighting systems and installing efficient windows. These measures are already contributing to the savings in current expenditure, in particular the reduction of spending on energy.
These interventions mean a total investment of about three million euros and will guarantee better thermal comfort and occupational, renewable energy production for self-consumption, improved air quality interior and exterior materials and the elimination of some environmentally friendly. Energy certification reached a total of 23 buildings at the end of 2017 and the end of 2018 will cover the entire built UTAD park.
UTAD goes like this “en route to a University Eco” assuming this way a ‘commitment to ecological sustainability “.
