The 4th edition of the International Documentary Film Festival and Transmedia starts on March 21 in UTAD Association and Free Zone.

Real village receives from 21 to 24 March the RIOS  International Documentary Film Festival and Transmedia, organized by the University of Tras-os-Montes and Alto Douro (UTAD) with the support of the Task Force of Culture and Science Schools and Technology and Humanities and Social Sciences, UTAD, the Cultural Association Free Zone among other sponsors . This 4th edition has the Rio Mondego as protagonist and has the support center Portugal Film Commission . The Douro River, the Ria de Aveiro and Minho River were the protagonists in previous editions.

Anabela Branco de Oliveira, professor of UTAD and responsible for the RIOS organization reported that, for this edition, were received across platforms Film Freeway and Festhome, about 104 short and feature films coming from 21 different countries including Portugal, Spain , France, Italy, UK, Germany, Bulgaria, Hungary, Poland, Russia, Brazil, Chile, United States, Canada, Argentina, Peru, Uruguay, Egypt, Iran, India and Australia.

Of these, we selected 24 films (short and long) in Spain, Portugal, Australia, UK, Iran, Peru, Egypt, Argentina, France, Brazil, Poland and Russia. For the competition Document University, were selected 16 film Communications and Multimedia and Communication Sciences students .

To evaluate the films in the competition, an international jury was made up that keeps some of the members of the previous editions as Antonio Costa Valente, Manuel Fernando Costa e Silva and Rita Capucho. Reza Hajipour (director of Streams Film Festival), João Antunes (journalist and film critic), Latifa Said (French director) and Francis Brosseron (professor and activist) is new in jurors group this year. For the competition Document University , the members of the jury are Marta Torres and Caludio Regengo, former students of UTAD and professionals in the audiovisual area and Jorge Lestre, author of the blog Cineaddiction.

For three days UTAD and Cultural Association Free Zone will host a free film festival and open to the public where, in addition to film screenings, workshops will be held, energized by winning the previous edition, Alfonso Palazón, Miguel Lopez Beraza, David Vasquez and Latifa Said to be held in the morning of the Festival at the School of Science and Technology UTAD. Competitive sessions (afternoon) and special sessions (evening) will be held in the auditorium and adjacent spaces of the Cultural Association Free Zone. Also in the framework of a partnership with the Universidad Rey Juan Carlos, the documentary international project, widely awarded, will be presented Hacia una rosa spring .

Vila Real, will be during the festival, a point of international cinema meeting will allow the exploitation of the region and the gestation of new projects and new aesthetic creations.

The RIOS , defined as an activity platform for the creation and promotion of author projects in the independent film and audiovisual and intends to exploit and disseminate the aesthetic potential linked to the river, making it a special area of filmmaking under documentary.
