Pro-Rector for Evaluation, Accreditation and Teaching Quality (2006-10), and Pro-Rector for Specialized Bodies and structuring Projects (2010-12).

♦ R&D | Was part of 21 R&D projects financed by PAMAF, AGRO, PEDIP, INTERREG, Equal, FCT, Adi and Sociedade Ponto Verde. Head of the following projects: “Entrepreneurial Douro –Douro Empreendedor”, “Seiva Corgo”, “To Protect is to Know – Proteger é Conhecer” and “Boticas, Nature and Diversity – Boticas, Natureza e Biodiversidade”, funded by ON2. He has 146 published titles, including technical and pedagogical articles in indexed international journals. His scientific group has presented 125 communications in conferences, and he has advised 25 doctorates and master’s thesis and 17 course final reports. He has peer-reviewed in 16 international journals, has evaluated R&D and Entrepreneurialism projects and is the Director of the Portuguese Animal Science Journal (1994-08). He is the president of the Ibero-american Toxicology and Environmental Contamination Society.

♦ Honours | City of Vila Real Municipal Merit Gold Medal, ICETA Incentive to Publication in International Journals Award (2001 and 2002) and National Landscape Architecture Award for the scientific coordination of the work done in the Sta Cruz-S. Brás Park. His work resulting from biodiversity projects has allowed Vila Real to obtain an international honour by the International Association of Educational Cities.
